The value of honesty cannot be overstated. To prove the point, think what the world would be like if deception had no part in its fabric. Jails would be almost empty, leaders could be relied upon, divorce would be rare instead of common and, most of all, we would feel safe and know our children would be safe in trusting another human being.
Honesty, particularly self-honesty, is so important that a human cannot truly thrive without it. In truth, the state of happiness can only be diminished without it. Honesty is not afraid of the light of day and has no need to hide. Dishonesty is furtive, afraid and loves the dark.
